Life Together

At First Lutheran Church we see ourselves as one extended family. We look out for each other and provide caring support of one another as needed. Under the umbrella of our Parish Life committee we enjoy opportunities for meals together and to join in a variety of activities for fun and fellowship.

Fellowship Meals

Our Parish Life committee strives to bring people together for fun and fellowship. Each year we host Covered Dish dinners, a Game Night, an Easter Breakfast and our after Church Luncheons. One Sunday every June we have morning worship at Caledonia State Park followed by our annual church picnic with fried chicken and all the fixins’!

Youth

How important it is for young folks to have Christian friends and work together as a community of Christ!

Opportunities are offered for middle and high school age youth, and for children and their families to serve our neighbors, worship, and have fun together.  Visit our Youth page for current events and more information.

Helping Hands

If you need a hand with housework, grocery shopping, meals, or yard work, call George Hammond at (717) 977-8804 and he will connect you with one of our members able to give you a hand.

Prayer Ministry

A group of members participate in a prayer “chain”. Marcia Hunt receives information about folks who are in need of special care and prayers for healing. Some are from our church family, and other relatives, friends, or neighbors of our members. Emails are sent to persons in the chain. who then pray for the person in need. A “we are praying for you” card is sent to everyone on the prayer list, and these have been greatly appreciated.

Transportation

Need a ride to church on Sunday? Call the church office (717) 264-2015 (weekdays) and someone will come to pick you up!

Ladies fellowship breakfast

All women are welcome to join us on the third Wednesday of the month at 8:30 a.m. We meet at a different local restaurant every month. Call Grace Williams for information about this month’s restaurant choice.

W/ELCA — Women of the ELCA

WELCA is our congregation’s women’s organization. All women are welcome to attend any WELCA event or participate in any of our projects. Ask at the church office, or see President Gertrude Kampmeyer, if you would like a copy of this year’s booklet outlining programs and events.

“Circles” gather for Bible study and fellowship monthly except in October, December, and March, when we all meet together for special presentations.

Sister Margaret Circle meets the first Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m.

The Afternoon Circle meets the second Monday of the month at 1:30 p.m.

Every year we choose a service project and gather food and/or items needed for a local service organization. This year we are collecting food items for the school backpack program. We take a red rose to congregation members who are hospitalized.

Mothers and Others dinner is held every year in May.

Daily Devotions

We encourage our members to be aware of God’s presence in our lives with daily Bible reading and prayer. The Word in Season lists three readings and a brief meditation for daily use. It is available in Memorial Hall and upstairs as you exit the elevator. For folks who begin their day in front of a computer we suggest these resources:
